Join Us in Advancing Sustainable Development: CATIE Welcomes Singaporean Ambassador for Strategic Collaboration

On September 4th, CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) proudly welcomed Mr. Chaly Mah, Ambassador of Singapore to Costa Rica, and Ms. Yeo Xi Zin, Latin America and Caribbean Officer from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This important visit focused on strengthening international cooperation and exploring future collaborations in key areas crucial for the sustainable development of Latin America and the Caribbean. The discussions emphasized:

  • Biodiversity research

  • Ecosystem services

  • Sustainable coffee and cacao production

  • Agroecotourism and peri-urban agricultural systems

At CATIE, we are dedicated to leading initiatives that make a profound impact in the region. During the visit, the delegation toured our Botanical Garden and viewed our International Coffee Collection, which is celebrating 75 years, and our International Cacao Collection, marking its 80th anniversary—both cornerstones of global research and innovation.

Ambassador Mah recognized CATIE as a world-class institution driving agricultural research and education in tropical regions, underlining the critical role of our work in promoting food security, sustainable practices, and inclusive green development.
