Support the Future of Environmental Policy Education at CATIE
We are excited to share a recent milestone at CATIE, where our students had the invaluable opportunity to learn from distinguished French professors about environmental policies.
This enriching four-day workshop on our campus focused on territorial diagnosis and analysis, with insights from Róger Madrigal, a researcher from CATIE's UEAAS/EfD.
Course Highlights
Course Title: Environmental Policies and Transport Infrastructure: Tools and Studies from France and Latin America
Instructors:
Carmen Cantuarias-Villessuzanne (ESPI2R Laboratory)
Laetitia Turrey and Jeffrey Blain (ESPI)
Róger Madrigal (UEAAS/EfD, CATIE)
Objectives:
Equip students with the skills to analyze and evaluate public policies, infrastructure development, and environmental protection.
Understand environmental assessment legislation from both France and Latin America.
Structure:
Three virtual modules covering economic development, infrastructure and deforestation, environmental assessment and regulation, and economic valuation for landscape integration and ecological continuity policies.
One in-person workshop that fostered close interaction between students and faculty, featuring a field visit to downtown Turrialba for a territorial diagnosis.
Achievements:
Students designed posters to present their findings from the field visit and document reviews, demonstrating their knowledge practically and constructively. This initiative is part of the CEENTRAL project, a collaboration between CATIE's UEAAS/EfD, France's École Supèrieur des Professions Immobilières (ESPI), San Ignacio de Loyola University (USIL) in Peru, the SETEC construction company, and CEREMA.
Call to Action:
Carmen Cantuarias-Villessuzanne emphasized, "We aim to disseminate the CENTRAAL course across academic institutions in Latin America and France to develop a regional map of protection policies and a taxonomy of economic instruments favoring biodiversity and ecosystems in Latin America."
To continue providing such transformative educational experiences, we need your support. Your donation will help us fund scholarships, research projects, and more workshops like this, ensuring that our students are well-prepared to tackle the pressing environmental challenges of our time.
