Samuel Torres, Chief of Staff of Advisors and former Deputy Minister of Production of Peru, alongside the director of CATIE, Luis Pocasangre, in their latest meeting on the campus.

CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center in Costa Rica) received a visit from Samuel Torres, Chief of Staff of Advisors and former Deputy Minister of Production (PRODUCE) of Peru, to explore new collaboration opportunities in the agricultural and forestry fields.

"I am here to firsthand witness the impressive work carried out by CATIE and to take advantage of all the scientific knowledge it generates," expressed Torres after a meeting with the Director General, Luis Pocasangre.

Torres highlighted the importance of having the support of high-quality and advanced scientific research for knowledge transfer to countries like Peru, whose export products face increasing demands from international markets regarding zero depredation certifications.

"It is vital for us in Peru to access cutting-edge knowledge in agriculture and forestry," he commented. "Collaboration with institutions like CATIE provides us with the necessary foundation to meet international standards and maintain the competitiveness of our products in the global market."

Aware of the crucial role played by CATIE as a leading research and innovation center in Latin America, Torres is determined to strengthen the ties between Peru and CATIE.

On March 13th, Christian Barrantes, Vice Minister of Family Agriculture Development and Agricultural Infrastructure and Irrigation of the Ministry of Agricultural and Irrigation Development of the Republic of Peru, also visited CATIE.

His visit aimed to identify cooperation topics to address the current challenges facing Peruvian agriculture, especially regarding the promotion of climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, as well as efficient water management.
